When Legrand Belgium moved into their new offices in Zaventem three years ago, it quickly became clear that the previous tenant had paid little attention to sustainability. The building lacked energy-efficient systems and smart controls, which conflicted with Legrand’s strong commitment to energy efficiency and intelligent building management. An upgrade was essential to bring the workspace in line with Legrand’s values and operational standards.
Legrand addressed the challenge in two strategic phases, integrating its technologies with the WEOZ platform to transform the building into a smart, energy-efficient environment. The upgrade began with lighting and environmental control: outdated fixtures were replaced with DALI dimmable LED lights, and Legrand’s Light-Up motion sensors were installed throughout the offices. These sensors automatically adjust lighting based on daylight and occupancy, while also monitoring temperature, humidity, sound levels, air quality, and room occupancy. They support both wired and ZigBee communication and include manual control buttons for local adjustments. ZigBee-enabled power plugs were added to switch off high-consumption devices when rooms are unoccupied. All sensor data is transmitted via local area managers to the WEOZ system for centralized monitoring and control. Legrand then optimized the HVAC system. Rather than replacing the aging but functional VRF system, they enhanced its control using Airzone Aidoo gateways in each zone, enabling smarter temperature regulation based on schedules and occupancy. To further improve energy management, meters were installed to monitor total power consumption, solar energy production, and specific usage of HVAC systems and EV charging stations, all connected to the WEOZ platform. Using the WEOZ interface, the facility manager can now establish rules that optimize both comfort and energy efficiency, while also gaining valuable insights into air quality and meeting room utilization. Thanks to the predominantly wireless setup, installation was minimally disruptive to daily operations.
